Bill Pay- Postal Truck Accident

A U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer that carries check-disbursed bill payments for American Southwest Credit Union struck a barrier in Louisville KY, causing the truck to flip and become engulfed in flames. The truck was destined for the Greensboro/Raleigh NC plant for processing.

Fortunately the driver of the vehicle was able to escape with only minor injuries. However, the majority of the trailer's contents were completely destroyed by a combination of the fire and rain.

If any mail is determined to be salvageable, the US Postal Service will ensure that it reaches the addressee or will be sent back to the sender.

Our check processor has alerted us that bill payment checks processed on 5/20/13 and 5/21/13 with zip codes starting with 270-279 and 286 have a potential of being on this truck. We have determined that the total number of checks is under 500 and at this time we are attempting to identify with our processor the FI's (Financial Institutions) potentially impacted. If that information can be provided, the Bill Pay support team will be reaching out to those FIs with further details.

However, there is not a way for our processor to confirm which checks were loaded on the truck. As a result, a check reprint will not occur.
