Overdraft/Line of Credit

Overdraft Protection Program is a special overdraft service for your Classic Checking or Prestige Checking account. Your overdraft limit depends on the type of checking account you have. Normally a Classic Checking has an overdraft limit of $400.00 and a Prestige Checking has a limit of $700.00.

Your account may have two different balances: the "actual" balance and the "available" balance. We use your available balance when determining whether a transaction will cause your account to overdraw and incur any fees. An example of this is: Your account has a beginning balance of $200.00. You use a pay-at-the-pump machine to purchase gas. The gas station places a $100.00 hold on your account. Your "actual" balance is $200.00, but your available balance is now $100.00 until that hold is released (regardless of how much you actually purchase in gas).

We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  • We offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account or Line of Credit, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask about these plans.
  • We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.

  • This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

  • *Once your draft path has been depleted, only checks you have written, reoccurring debit transactions, and ACH items will overdraft your checking up to the overdraft tolerance amount.* (tolerances are $400.00 for classic checking, $700.00 for prestige checking and include any fees charged)

Overdraft Protection Program is a non-contractual courtesy that will cover certain transactions and requires no action on your part. We will notify you if an overdraft occurs. You should not consider or use Overdraft Protection as a line of credit or as a regular source of funds. Under our standard Overdraft practices the payment fee schedule is:
    $0.01 to $10.00 - No Charge
    $10.01 to $100.00 - $25.00
    $100.01 and over - $28.00

Also, if your account remains negative for more than 30 days, the account will be considered “not in good standing” and may be closed.

Overdraft Protection Program is automatically available after your checking account is open for 30 days as long as you maintain your checking account in good standing (defined as making regular deposits and bringing your account to a positive balance, including payment of all Credit Union fees charged to your account, at least once every 30 days).

Your Overdraft Protection limit may be available to you by writing a check, reoccurring Visa debit card transactions, and ACH transactions. This limit will not be reflected in your balance provided by a teller, at the ATM, or through Home Banking.*

Overdraft Protection should not be viewed as an encouragement to overdraw your account. As always, we encourage you to manage your finances responsibly. If you have questions about this service, please call (520) 459-1860 or (800) 752-6394.

*See Member Services Representative for details and restrictions.
